Something I Learned Today

In Spain, Clockwork Orange was called La Maranja Mecanica.

Not only does that sound like the name of a very bad psychedelic band from Seville, ca. 1968 (I mean, The Mechanical Orange?), it also shows a failure to understand the meaning of the title, which is not referring to an orange that shows the time, is part of a clockwork, or some such thing. Rather, before his first treatment, and after his second one, Alex has a free will and is in that sense natural - like an orange. After his first treatment, Alex is partly deprived of his free will - he just functions, like a clockwork.
