Frankly, I haven't even read Bryan Caplan's much-discussed book. But given the amount of interviews and blogposts about it that I have absorbed, I can't see why I should. It feels as though I had read it three times and written a term paper about it.
So, here's my summary:
1. Politicians have incentives to give people what they want.
2. So that's what they largely do.
3. Many of the resulting policies are shite.
4. That's because people are effin' stupid.
